1. Product Description

Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipes are manufactured from high-quality Mild Steel strips, formed into tubular shape and welded longitudinally using high-frequency electric resistance welding. These pipes are widely used for structural, mechanical, water, gas, and general engineering applications.

2. Manufacturing Process
  • Cold forming of MS steel strip

  • High Frequency Electric Resistance Welding (HFW/ERW)

  • Online weld seam heat treatment

  • Straightening, sizing, and cutting to length

  • Hydrostatic / Eddy Current Testing (as required)

GALVANIZED STEEL PIPES 1. Scope

This specification covers the manufacture, supply, inspection, testing, packing, and delivery of hot-dip galvanized mild steel pipes intended for use in water supply, plumbing, firefighting, structural, and general engineering applications.

2. Applicable Standards

Galvanized steel pipes shall conform to one or more of the following standards, as specified in the purchase order:

  • ASTM A53 / A53M – Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated

  • BS 1387 – Steel tubes and tubulars suitable for screwing

  • IS 1239 (Part 1 & 2) – Mild Steel Tubes, Tubulars and Other Wrought Steel Fittings

  • ISO 65 – Carbon steel tubes suitable for screwing

Equivalent international standards may be accepted subject to approval.

3. Material

Pipes shall be manufactured from mild steel produced by electric resistance welded (ERW) or seamless process. The steel shall be free from laminations, cracks, surface defects, and other imperfections that may affect performance.

4. Dimensions and Sizes
  • Nominal Bore (NB): 15 mm to 300 mm (½" to 12")

  • Length: Random length 5–7 m or fixed length 6 m, unless otherwise specified

  • Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness: As per applicable standard

  • Tolerance: As per relevant standard requirements

5. Galvanizing

Pipes shall be hot-dip galvanized both internally and externally after fabrication in accordance with ASTM A123 / A153 or equivalent.

  • Minimum Zinc Coating:

    • Average coating mass ≥ 275 g/m²

  • Coating shall be uniform, smooth, continuous, and firmly adherent.

  • Free from flaking, peeling, bare spots, blisters, and excessive ash.

1. Scope

This specification covers the supply, manufacture, testing, and delivery of Mild Steel Electric Resistance Welded (ERW) Pipes for structural, mechanical, and general engineering applications.

2. Manufacturing Process
  • Pipes shall be manufactured from hot rolled steel strips.

  • Formed by Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) without the use of filler metal.

  • Weld seam shall be heat treated and normalized to ensure uniform mechanical properties.

  • Pipes shall be straight, smooth, and free from harmful defects.

3. Applicable Standards

Pipes shall conform to one or more of the following standards (as specified in the order):

  • IS 1239 (Part 1 & 2)

  • IS 3589

  • ASTM A53 Grade A / B

4. Material Grade
