This specification covers the manufacture, supply, inspection, testing, packing, and delivery of hot-dip galvanized mild steel pipes intended for use in water supply, plumbing, firefighting, structural, and general engineering applications.
2. Applicable StandardsGalvanized steel pipes shall conform to one or more of the following standards, as specified in the purchase order:
ASTM A53 / A53M – Standard Specification for Pipe, Steel, Black and Hot-Dipped, Zinc-Coated
BS 1387 – Steel tubes and tubulars suitable for screwing
IS 1239 (Part 1 & 2) – Mild Steel Tubes, Tubulars and Other Wrought Steel Fittings
ISO 65 – Carbon steel tubes suitable for screwing
Equivalent international standards may be accepted subject to approval.
3. MaterialPipes shall be manufactured from mild steel produced by electric resistance welded (ERW) or seamless process. The steel shall be free from laminations, cracks, surface defects, and other imperfections that may affect performance.
4. Dimensions and SizesNominal Bore (NB): 15 mm to 300 mm (½" to 12")
Length: Random length 5–7 m or fixed length 6 m, unless otherwise specified
Outside Diameter and Wall Thickness: As per applicable standard
Tolerance: As per relevant standard requirements
Pipes shall be hot-dip galvanized both internally and externally after fabrication in accordance with ASTM A123 / A153 or equivalent.
Minimum Zinc Coating:
Average coating mass ≥ 275 g/m²
Coating shall be uniform, smooth, continuous, and firmly adherent.
Free from flaking, peeling, bare spots, blisters, and excessive ash.

Weld seam shall be heat treated and normalized to ensure uniform mechanical properties.
